The aroma is delightfully potent with dark chocolate, pot still character, barley grain, varnish, molasses, dried plum, and perhaps even coffee? (I realize a Coffey still and coffee are distinct, yet I'm convinced it's present). Very little ethanol. Inviting. The palate mirrors the nose closely, featuring all the aforementioned notes plus malted milk ball, caramel chew candy, and butterscotch. A dessert lover's dream. The finish is somewhat lacking, essentially an echo of the palate. Hints of wood, vanilla, and marzipan appear, but I desired some spice to balance the sweetness, which never materialized. The texture is very creamy, initially a positive, but it became slightly overwhelming with continued sipping. It's the "darkest" Irish Whiskey I've encountered, packed with sweet, rich flavors. At $99, I'm uncertain of my feelings. Make no mistake, this is a quality whiskey, but perhaps not my expectation for an Irish spirit. This suggests it's likely me, but as this is my review, it earns a 3.75 and won't be repurchased. Your experience may differ.
