Hayman's London Dry Gin

This London Dry gin was created by Christopher Hayman, utilizing a recipe of 10 botanicals, including angelica roots from France, cinnamon from Madagascar, coriander from Bulgaria, and orris root from Italy. All ingredients are steeped for a full day before distillation to enhance flavor extraction. It presents a floral beginning with notes of coriander, juniper, orange peel, and freshly cut celery. The development introduces piney juniper, bitter orris root, zesty citrus, and chocolate, leading to a balanced, clean, and elegant conclusion. January 2018

This gin is unremarkable and unexceptional. It lacks distinct flavors but serves well as a reasonably neutral and well-priced mixer. I would not choose this over gins like Ki No Bi or Roots, but I wouldn't decline a G&T made with it.

This London Dry presents a more citrus-forward profile than usual, with a light, fresh juniper presence. It has a slight bitterness and a touch of sweetness, achieving good overall balance. While it has a strong burn neat, it's refreshing with cold tonic. I sampled the 47% version of this gin.

For such an affordable price, Hayman's has won my favor over Bombay Sapphire with its sweetness and citrus-forward profile, while still retaining the botanical and juniper foundation of a fine gin. You can't go wrong with this one!

I found this to be a wonderful discovery as I prefer my gin with soda rather than tonic. Because soda water is dry and tonic is sweet, I can appreciate and enjoy the botanicals in this excellent gin.

The only London Dry gin that highlights citrus while retaining full proof and a spicy mid-palate. The Hayman family has been producing gin in Greater London since 1863.
