Grangestone 21 Year

A robust Single Malt Scotch from the Highlands of Scotland; created using a blend of special casks; initially aged in former bourbon casks, then finished in unique casks for at least 21 years and bottled at 80 proof. It has an aromatic beginning with notes of grain, fruit, nuts, wood & spices; while a rich & full body adds notes of ginger, spicy toffee, orange, cinnamon, clove, honey, vanilla & oak; leading to a long & balanced conclusion. An invigorating, simple pour that delivers considerably more flavor than anticipated. I detect aromas of citrus alongside richer notes, such as vanilla and caramel. The taste is not long-lasting but feels lively, effervescent, and enjoyable. This spirit is like sunshine captured in a glass. Enjoy it during gloomy weather when you desire a fine companion from Scotland to lift your spirits. It pairs excellently with grilled haddock, accompanied by mashed potatoes, leeks, and a small rye bread roll.

My initial experience with Scotch was with this bottle, and I found it quite good back then. However, with more experience in my whiskey and Scotch exploration, I now see it's not exceptional. I'd rate it a firm 3 out of 5 stars. It's a very average Scotch, and numerous other options provide better bang for your buck. This one leans a bit too much into a honey-like sweetness for my preference, and the flavor profile is somewhat lacking in depth.

Don't spend your money here. You'd be better off purchasing the Dalmore 12 Year or any Dalwhinnie. This doesn't taste like a 21 Year old. Total Wine will promote this brand, but that's their job. It lacks the depth, flavor, or smoothness expected of a 21 Year old. For $80, you could find a much superior highland Scotch.

Received a sample of this at a store in Houston, and it's a pleasant Whisky. Bottled at 40%. On the nose and palate: apples with faint smoke. Wonderful harmony between fruitiness and peatiness. The finish has a puff of faint smoke. Overall, this whisky is a commendable selection. Rated 82 out of 100.

A product suggested by a large liquor store. For a 21-year-old bottle, it's completely unmemorable. You can find much better options for the price.
