Goodridge & Williams Western Grains

The last product I had from this distillery (100% rye) was quite terrible. I don't know if I got a bad batch, but it tasted like someone had dropped a load of pencils with erasers into the barrel. I couldn't even finish the bottle. Let's hope this one goes better. Nose: Sweet, caramel, cereal and a bit of rye spice. Palate: Watery texture, sweet, caramel, cereal and a bit of rye spice. Exactly what the nose indicated it would be. Finish: Like Nick Cage, this one disappears in 60 seconds. Oak and a little bit of pepper. It's decent but nothing to rave about. This one is at least drinkable compared to the rye and will be my go-to mixer until the bottle is gone.

I commend this distillery for attempting to release smaller batch, high-quality Canadian whisky. For me, though, it lacks the richness I seek. It has corn sweetness, a bit of butter, caramel, and a trace of spice. Overall, it's sweet and easy to drink. I also detect a slightly artificial or aspartame-like note. I'm hopeful their next offering will be an improvement.

Smooth, earthy, bread-like notes with some floral hints, almond, coconut, and caramel.

Woody bitterness, with light floral and citrus notes.
