Big thanks to a friend who brought this back from their trip to the highlands! It begins with notes of toffee, vanilla bean, dry oak, cinnamon, and a gentle white pepper. Burnt orange and a complex, earthy peat smoke lead into the finish, which is also complex and lengthy, highlighting tannin, peat, and vanilla. A fantastic dram, and I'm glad I got to sample a whiskey from Scotland's oldest operating distillery.

The aroma is lovely, with a scent of wet peat smoke similar to Laphroaig but with underlying fruit. The flavor is less intense than anticipated, with no significant initial impact or burn. Light fruit notes, like strawberry or some berry, transition into peat on the finish. It lacks richness, but I find the combination of berry and peat unusual. It's enjoyable and easy to drink.

Nose: Cherry, malt, citrus, and stale water. Palate: Spicy, peat, cinnamon, vanilla, with a distinct licorice note at the very back of the palate. Finish: Crème brûlée, caramel, and a slight smoked peat.
