Glenmorangie Finealta

I misplaced my notes from some time ago, but this left a memorable enough impression to warrant jotting down what I recall. The core aim of Dr. Lumsden and his colleagues at Glenmorangie was to replicate a malt from the early 1900s, and I must say, if they achieved that, I feel a bit sorry for people back then. The distillery's signature fresh, honeyed, and mildly fruity character remains, but it possesses more body here, along with delightful autumnal wood notes and a subtle, sweet hardwood campfire aroma. I'd happily sip this again, and I'm not always a big fan of Glenmorangie.

AROMA Baked banana, vanilla custard, peat, toasted marshmallows, nuts, malt, and dried orchard fruit. Quite unlike the typical Glenmorangie profile, but I'm enjoying it. PALATE Leathery dark fruit, banana pudding, smoke, roasted nuts, char, baking spices, vanilla malt shake, milk chocolate, and some taffy sweetness. The palate is intricate and captivating. While atypical for Glenmo, it's good. FINISH Lingering -> Dark fruit, roasted nuts, smoke, and leather with a vanilla cupcake afterglow.
