About this bottle

The inaugural bottling in Glenmorangie's 1970s Collection originates from a distillation on New Year's Eve 1971. A significant portion of this whisky was initially released in 1993 to commemorate the distillery's 150th anniversary. However, some stock was reserved and aged further. This particular release was bottled and sold in December 1998, having aged for 26 years. Dr. Bill Lumsden estimates that sherry casks held 40% of the whisky used for this bottling, while bourbon casks held the remaining 60%.

Tasted for the Drammers club, marking the 150th anniversary of Der Grune Punkt. Outstanding. Matured from 1971 to 1993, then finished in sherry barrels. Nose: Dried fruits like raisins, dates, figs, and prunes blend with chocolate, toffee, tart cherries, red apples, oranges, honey, pear peels, vanilla, and berries (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries), plus bananas. Palate: Vanilla, raisins, sultanas, tropical fruits (pineapples, mangoes, papayas), toffee, bananas, figs, honey, coconuts, papayas, lemon, browned butter, and walnuts. Finish: Figs, oranges, tart cherries, passion fruit, honey, vanilla, caramel, prunes, almonds, mangoes, and nutmeg.

Received a generous sample of the 150th anniversary release (1971-1993) from a friend. It's likely similar to the spirit in the pictured bottle, just not aged as long. I didn't want to create a new listing, so I'm posting my thoughts here. Nose: subtle notes of figs, raisins, honeydew melon, light cinnamon, and oak. Palate: velvety and smooth with honeyed graham cracker and melon. Finish: a brief finish left me wanting more. Alas, it has all been consumed.
