Glenmorangie 13-Year-Old Single Malt Cognac Barrel Finished Single Barrel Select (2021 Release) is a delicate Single Malt Scotch Whisky crafted by a doctor for Glenmorangie Distillery in Highland, Scotland. It was aged for over 8 years in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in ex-Cognac casks for over 4 years, before being bottled at 46% ABV. It has an aromatic start with notes of citrus, tree fruits, nuts & wood; while a rich body adds notes of spiced apple, yellow plum, orange oils, buttery biscuits, honey, caramel, vanilla, clove & flaked almonds atop warm pastries; leading to a zesty finish of medium length with notes of orange rind, caramelized fruits, leather, oak & cedar. December 2021 / August 2022

Nose: Fruit, apple, green/earthy, fresh, light spice Palate: Orange/citrus, sweet, salted caramel, caramelized fruit, light baking spices (cloves) Finish: Medium long finish. Sweet, oaky, spicy, citrus/orange oil Nice buttery/oily mouthfeel. This tastes like a slightly richer version of the Original 10y/o. Very easy to drink and very flavorful. Nice! Finished tied for second place out of the six samples, receiving 14% (3 votes) for favorite of the night. 67% (14 votes) of those present indicated they enjoyed the whiskey. I liked this enough to purchase a bottle after the tasting.

NOSE Waxy vanilla, nutty malt, graham cracker, cocoa, baking spice with hints of bubblegum and raisins. Not very complex, but pleasant and welcoming. PALATE Cognac, cinnamon-forward baking spice, malty graham cracker, nuts, cocoa, raisin-like fruit, and a hint of bubblegum. More robust than the aroma, but the mid-palate feels rather flat, as if something is missing. FINISH Medium -> Raisin-like fruit and graham cracker fade into baking spice.

Kurt Stein 4.5

It’s like a rich, dense brownie (slightly undercooked) with caramel swirls running through it. Warm malt and spice meet the dessert on the midpalate. The finish is oily and decadent. It becomes creamier and more complex with a few drops of water. Imagine mocha, malt, tiramisu, oak, fig.

Nigel Guevara 3.8

The nose features fruity notes, particularly pineapple that stood out, and a touch of honey. The palate has some artificial flavors. The finish is medium, with a bit of spice/pepper. Overall, this is acceptable but not a favorite of mine from Glenmorangie.
