Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One 2019

Aroma: Dried grapes, figs, fig bars, dark honey, caramel, burnt orange peel, cocoa, a touch of grape pop. Palate: Dried grapes, dark apple drink, mild spicy warmth, ginger, figs, caramel, a whisper of citrus, slightly astringent. Aftertaste: Persistent fruity warmth, syrupy dried grapes, faint tinny note reminiscent of fruit from a can, a trace of bitter stems/shoots. Rating: 91/100 Overall: This expression met expectations. The scent was amazing and enduring. The slightly elevated alcohol content likely contributes to its longevity without being overwhelming. The aroma continues to develop. On the tongue, it's less intricate than the smell but still very enjoyable. It carries the characteristics of a younger spirit, lacking the dense, leathery texture of aged Scotches, yet it's still quite pleasing. This is the kind of drink I'd choose for a well-sherried experience. The finish could be improved, but it remains agreeable. Bottle half-full, opened for a month. Nose: Malt, chocolate, and banana. Taste: Berries, figs, dates, chocolate. Finish: Spicy chocolate and astringency. Value: It's very cool of Glengoyne to release a high-ABV NAS. I won't be collecting this one like some do with the Macallan Edition series. I suspect this Legacy 1 is trying to capitalize on the 'Gotta catch 'em all' mentality of whiskey enthusiasts. It's a good fruity, chocolaty, and potent whiskey at a reasonable price. P.S. I've considered buying another since this bottle is nearly empty – I've unconsciously enjoyed it more in life than in this review. 5.0 - Go buy every bottle you can find. 4.0 - Must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - Solid, try it at a bar or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - Didn't like it, but you might. 1.0 - You may have the palate of my dog, who licks his own rear.

Half a bottle. Opened for 8 months. Aroma: Amber color with high viscosity. Nose: Chocolate, caramel, raisins, plums, apricots, dark berries, licorice, rum cake, espresso. Palate: Medium spicy arrival, full-bodied, rich, oily, milk chocolate, burnt sugar, espresso, raisins, plums, apricots, walnuts, licorice, rum cake, dry oak. Finish: Medium length, with a chocolate-espresso-oaky aftertaste (truly excellent!!). Commentary: For me, this perfectly illustrates how your palate evolves during your whisky journey, allowing you to appreciate flavors you didn't notice before. This is a solid, delicious dram, especially for sherry enthusiasts. The alcohol content is ideal for this bottling; no water is needed – just let it breathe in the glass and remember that patience is essential on this journey.

I was really looking forward to sampling this latest offering from Glengoyne. It presents wonderful fruit notes complemented by a pleasant woody conclusion. The initial sips were a touch aggressive, so I introduced a small amount of water and allowed it to rest and breathe. By the time I finished my pour, roughly thirty minutes had passed, and it had truly blossomed, becoming wonderfully mellow and rich with taste. I will certainly seek out chapter 2 next year and procure another bottle of this before its excellence becomes widely known!

The official assessment is the most fascinating aspect of this whiskey. A master is skilled at analyzing and detailing whiskey. Their words precisely capture my experience and final outcome. A definite pass. However, I think I'll search more about this person, as they seem worth knowing more about...

Too aggressive when opened, But after being open a year damn. Totally different whiskey, salted dark chocolate figs with sherry notes. The overpowering alcohol smell and taste is now a wonderful taste and hug. Buy it take a drink and put it up for a year delicious.
