Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch No. 008

Nose - candy apple, nectar, pastry dough, toasted grain. Taste - candy and nectar are present. Pecan pie. Syrupy texture. Ending - baked apple, granulated sugar. This is delightful to sip straight, and it's my first bottle from this distillery. A classic highland character is evident, showcasing a measured approach with the sherry casks. I'm beginning to grasp the concept of an 'old school' single malt. Distilleries like Glenfarclas, Glencadam, and Ancnoc appear to use sherry casks as an enhancement rather than the primary focus. I'd place this spirit in that category.

Nose: A sharp tang upfront, red apple peel, musty malt. Taste: A solid hit of immediate dark fruit, followed by a developing sensation of lemon tartness. Oaky, lively, robust, and sweet. Finish: Oak, sweetness, and fruit tartness linger on the sides of the tongue, while a bitterness remains at the bottom. A significant drop from the mid-palate, but the lingering finish persists.

Taste of pepper and spice; the alcohol is noticeable but not unpleasantly so. Some banana flavor emerges near the end.
