Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch No. 006

The aroma bursts forth with notes of chocolate, ripe banana, grilled strawberries, and spice. The taste is intense, which could be interpreted as peppery spice or simply heat and burn. Adding water calms it down, revealing subtle oak, malt, and a blend of red fruits. The ending is lengthy and drying. This is a sweet spirit with a lovely nose, but the palate is harsh. I like it, but some might find it overly young and sharp.

Excellent! A rather robust cask strength, yet still smooth enough not to require water. A very classic cherry finish, but genuinely well-balanced. A distinct walnut flavor. Not too spicy, contrary to some reviews. A lovely bottle from a lesser-known distillery. Tasted at Mr. Drolet's in July 2022.

I found this enjoyable. Don't be intimidated by the cask strength; the flavor still comes through well with little burn. It's not incredibly refined, but still pleasing. I detected fruity oak and pepper. I believe the typical cost was $80 CAD. If you can find the Glengoyne 15, it's like the polished older sibling to this boisterous cask strength expression.

The aroma is primarily alcohol, with subtle fruit, pear, vanilla, and candy notes. The palate is very rich, featuring dark fruits, raisins, sherry, and vanilla. There are hints of sweet tobacco leaf and very mild oak. The finish is medium in length, dry, with a lingering sherry taste. Adding water makes it peppery, oily, thick, and enhances the sherry notes.

Nose: Dark sherry fruits and caramel, some banana, a nice hit of malt and light herbal notes, some underlying spice as well. Palate: Thick and oily, spiced stewed fruits, cinnamon and malt, a bit of lemon peel. Finish: Rich and long, fruity and spicy forever, a pretty hot burn.

Glen Garioch 12 - Score 7.5. The nose has a strong smell of sulfur? Wood and alcohol. On the palate, flavors of chocolate, plum, very reminiscent of Aberlour A'bunadh. Long finish. Tasty.
