About this bottle

Released in June 2016 alongside the Glenglassaugh Octaves Classic, this is the peated variant. The Glenglassaugh Octaves Peated, like its counterpart, is a single malt that has fully matured in octave casks. These casks, constructed from staves of larger, used barrels, are typically about one-eighth the size of a butt. It is presented without an age statement, is non-chill-filtered, contains no added color, and is bottled at 44% ABV.

Batch 2. The nose is mild with balanced peat and sour orchard fruits. It feels quite underdeveloped. If you investigate further, you'll find some unusual notes like bitter apricots and unripe pineapple. The palate is nice. It feels really good. It's balanced and simple but enjoyable. It's smooth and crisp simultaneously. The sweetness only remains in the background, leaving room for fruity peat notes with nuts and cornflakes. (If I had to compare it to a similar whisky, I'd pick Arran Machrie Moor.) Both the peated and unpeated versions are good. It's not as compelling, deep, or daring as other spirits from the same creator's other well-loved brands, Glendronach and BenRiach, but it is certainly distinctive and engaging.

Attended Dramfest 2020. I was required to sample this before being allowed to try the 30-year-old, as it was the only one I hadn't tasted. My focus was on the 30-year-old, so all I recall is that it was pretty good and then I proceeded to pour the 30!

Pleasant smoky flavor, it was the first smoky whisky I purchased myself in Dublin.

Dudley Ferrara 2.8

An uninspiring spirit, lacking significant taste or peat smoke.
