Glenglassaugh 12 Year

I had been wanting to try this distillery for a long time. This initial bottle has been impressive. In the glass, this scotch has a rich color and displays the faintest ruby hue. The aroma is delicate — and a delight. Malt and honey are apparent first, followed by black cherry preserves. A truly interesting and appealing wood stain note emerges, along with a pleasant maritime scent. The main theme of the taste is deliciously fruity, with pomegranate and strawberry tart coming to mind. Vanilla and oak provide a supporting character, and a hint of salinity rounds out the edges. The mouthfeel has a creamy texture that balances the salty aspect and adds depth to the red fruit. The finish is drying and oaken, salty and rich. Elegance is the defining characteristic of this composition. I anticipate experiencing it again soon. Comparable to other notable malts: on par with Mortlach, more intriguing than Macallan.

The nose presents cooked apples, malty funk, and iodine's peaty character. The taste features peat smoke balanced by white sugar sweetness. Baked pears and chestnuts in brown sugar with condensed milk are also present. It's dessert-like, delicious, and has the character of a Highland with Islay ambitions. It's surprisingly excellent, exceeding low expectations.

Oak, cherry, berries, amaretto, orange peel, vanilla, almonds. A sweet, rich palate with fruit, wood, some woody bitterness, and pepper; quite smooth.

From day 19 of the advent calendar. Tried neat. Smooth, fruity, nutty with notes of cherry, pear, peach, nuts, pecan, amaretto, figs, apricot.

Worth buying a bottle. The aroma and initial taste are a bit harsh, becoming smoother towards the back of the palate. It's best enjoyed with water or a large ice cube.

In terms of flavor, I believe it leans more towards Islay than Highland single malt, or perhaps a blend of peaty and fruity whiskies.
