About this bottle
Following the successful implementation of the Solera Vatting for their 15 Year Solera Reserve, Glenfiddich introduced three new Solera Vats. The Vintage Cask is the third release in this series, exclusively available through Global Travel Retail. This vatting includes whiskies aged in European Spanish sherry casks or first-fill bourbon casks. A distinctive feature is the inclusion of heavily peated whisky (25 ppm), which constitutes approximately 50% of the blend, resulting in a final ppm of 10-15 in the glass when combined with the other whiskies.

Seriously, I love Talisker Skye and can identify it blindfolded. And this Glenfiddich Vintage Reserve Cask, which was the most expensive of 3 new "reserve cask" series for the travel retail market, bears no resemblance to a Glenfiddich or a Speyside whatsoever.
On the nose, all those island aromas: Salt, Smoke, peat, burnt rubber, and seaweed.
On the palate: salt, rubber, burnt meat, cough syrup, with a medium conclusion. Full-bodied.
Overall, it's a great Talisker Skye, but Talisker Skye costs half as much, so get that one, since it's the same thing. 89/100

The peaty aroma, a taste that evokes the earth, is very potent, lending a sense of austerity. It also evokes feelings of familiarity and closeness. Then, ruffled on the nose is a slight scent of gasoline and menthol. It concludes with a faint smokiness, plus the salty taste of sweat. Herbal and vanilla aromas emerge when exhaling.

An intriguing effort at a peated whisky from Glenfiddich, the first I've tried from them. Frankly, I didn't even notice the peat; it just tasted strangely of oak that had been open too long, with vanilla. Then I saw the description and understood. It ends up tasting like a dram that's been sitting out. Not outstanding, but not bad either.

The aroma is very smoky, with nothing else notable. It's surprisingly fruity in the middle, with a touch of sweetness. Then, a substantial amount of peat smoke returns on the finish, and it lasts.
