About this bottle

The Scottish Highlands distillery GlenDronach is recognized for its sherry-matured single malts. Consistent with this reputation, a blend of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks were employed for the maturation of this cask strength bottling. This single malt lacks an age statement and is bottled without chill filtration or added coloring. Each batch is a limited release, with the alcohol by volume typically around 55%. Batch 4 was released at 54.7% ABV.

Fletcher Morley 4.3

Rich gold color with thick legs, a result of the 54.7% ABV. It has been a few years since I last opened this, but my wife randomly poured me a glass from my collection, and I was impressed with the initial taste, so I decided to explore it further. Tasted initially at cask strength, then with a few drops of water added. Nose: Tannic fruits, orange peel, and other dried fruits initially. A subtle hint of cinnamon and allspice with gentle oak influence. The high ABV is not as apparent on the nose as I anticipated. Water accentuates the dried fruit but does not significantly alter the profile. Palate Rich and full. Sherry flavors are prominent upfront. Abundant fruit, marmalade, and a touch of peppery spice. The sherry casks are dominant and truly awaken the taste buds, with flavors gradually building to a decadent conclusion. Despite the sherry sweetness, it is well-balanced by a pleasant bitterness. Finish Long and enjoyable. Almost like dessert, but in a semi-sweet manner, leaving a wonderful warmth and tingle on both my hard and soft palate. The flavors linger pleasantly until my next sip. This is quite excellent, and it's one I should have revisited sooner. It's very well-balanced and a superb way to end my evening. I would be very interested in sampling different batches of this if I encountered them. This was a gift I received several years ago, and I hope to find another one!

A nice attempt, but the older aged statements are what I prefer from that distillery.
