Wayne Holt 3.8

This Glencadam Reserva PX Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in small batches, though the quantity is unclear. The distillery's historic dunnage warehouses house single malt that was matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks. This casked single malt then underwent a finishing period in hand-selected Pedro Ximénez Sherry butts from Spain. It's a 70cl bottle with no age statement, bottled at 46% ABV, and is non-chill filtered with natural color. TASTING NOTES Nose: Rich scents of Christmas pudding, dried figs, and dark chocolate are intertwined with clove spices. A faint burnt match note accompanies the sherry funk. Palate: Sweet layers of maple syrup, treacle toffees, and prunes are mixed with cherries, brandy butter, and Black Forest Gateau. Finish: Warming sensations of cinder toffee, fruit cake, and crystallized ginger fade into a lingering cherry jam and espresso coffee. For the price, this is an excellent value and delivered as promised. It's not overly complicated, with a very sweet (but genuinely pleasant) initial impression that quickly recedes, revealing sherried baking spices and a touch of pepper. This could easily be mistaken for a more expensive, aged whisky (around 8-10 years). I'm curious about the spirit's age and the extent of the finishing process, but that's just my nerdy side. I understand some of the reasoning, but age-statement-free bottles always make me feel a bit deceived; I wish they would just include an age as it's a really nice whisky and a truly great value.

Maverick Levesque 3.5

The alcohol is still detectable even after allowing it to breathe or adding a few drops of water. A shame, as it started well with the aroma and appearance.

Colt Simmons 4.5

Notes of toffee, sweetness, caramel, and brown sugar.
