Glencadam Reserva Andalucia

I previously didn't think much of Glencadam, considering it a lesser distillery unable to stand up to superior competitors. I acquired this sample primarily because of its low cost and my commitment to reviewing numerous whiskies. However, this pour proved me wrong. It was an excellent whisky, nearly earning 4.5 stars, which genuinely shocked me given my prior low opinion of the distillery. As you might expect, this Reserva Andalucía is Glencadam's Sherried release. It's bottled at 46% ABV and has a tawny hue. On the nose, it's quite delicate with some intriguing notes. Initially woody, with a sawdust character. Gooseberries, lemon, pepper, and orchard fruits are present. There's also a scent reminiscent of water balloon plastic and inexpensive strawberry candy. A delightful cotton candy aroma also emerges. Following a couple of tastes, the scent evolved, presenting a lovely combination of lemon, chocolate, and hazelnut. On the palate, it's intricate and shifts with every sip. Red fruits, grapefruit, with a very subtle and muted spiciness. A second taste brought forth a cherry-flavored children's cough syrup. The third sip focused entirely on milk chocolate and ginger. Quite enjoyable. The finish was very direct yet highly pleasing. A smooth and tasty hint of smoke, along with hay and chocolate. Overall, this was a superior whisky that I truly savored. Utterly unexpected, featuring interesting flavor and aroma elements and a touch of smoke. Its only drawback is its very light body. A genuinely nice product, I rate it 89 out of 100.

Nose: Intense sherry, also a deep smell reminiscent of Tawny Port. Dark fruit. Taste: Very sweet, a little tangy. A sugary sweetness. Honeysuckle and blackberry. Compared to the aroma, the taste is slightly less impressive and leans a bit too much towards sugary sweetness. Finish: Long-lasting finish with honeysuckle, fudge, and dark chocolate. The sweetness persists the longest.

Oloroso finish. On the nose, sweet peach, walnut, sweetness, and a dried fruit sensation with a strong sweet sherry impression. Then a buttery sensation and blackberries appear. On the palate, alcoholic, dry, direct. A long, dry finish. A very good expression of the finish.

Slight notes of sherry, hints of green wood and damp wood. It almost seems to have a slight cork taint profile, though not unpleasant, with green pear notes. Very slightly sweet. Distinctive.

Nose: Fruity, not overly sweet, with dates. Body: Oily, peppery, candied, doughy, like fresh bread. Finish: Medium long, sweet, with cherries. A pleasant and spicy drink.

It has a dark color, an oily texture, and a hint of spice. Notes of nuts and fruit are present. The aftertaste is slightly bitter, with perhaps a touch of smoke.
