GlenAllachie 8 Year Koval Rye Quarter Cask Wood Finish

The aroma is sweet vanilla with a hint of orange fruitiness. The alcohol presence is light and somewhat bright, but not overpowering. It's reminiscent of the sweetness from chewing gum for about 15 minutes. Sweet, but not intensely so. Upon sipping, a subtle honey sweetness transitions briefly into a mild spiciness. The flavor is bright and fruity, yet spiciness is prominent throughout. The rye's character attempts to emerge but is subdued by GlenAllachie's floral notes, vanilla, and fruitiness. However, it becomes apparent as it goes down, delivering a notable kick. Finish: After the initial impact, spicy notes and aftertaste emerge but lack substance. They vanish quickly, leaving only a gentle warmth and mild spice... # Aged 8 years, with Koval Rye Wood Finish aged up to 2 years. # It can't overcome the difference in stature; it's like a second-string middle schooler who hasn't gained any weight. # The aromas and flavors in the glass jostle for attention, but it ultimately falls short...

Quick review #1: Met up with someone at a bar while traveling for work. Sampled five whiskies before my flight. Curious about the new distillery's potential under the previous management. It seems it was a collaborative success, as these releases ranked fourth and fifth among the five samples. This one was thinner and rougher, yet more intriguing than the portwood, which was the night's least favorite.

Light gold hue. Smell: cocoa, caramel, nectar, spice, timber Palate: somewhat slick, a burst of pepper and spice then nectar and a hint of wood Aftertaste: pleasant equilibrium, zesty and sweet Adding a little water mellows the aroma and taste, reducing the spice and bringing out the wood

Aroma: Cured ham, sugary, hint of vanilla. Incredibly smooth, with notes of salty pork, blossoms, and almond paste. Lingering, smooth finish with hints of banana and vanilla.

Smells like a young whisky. Pale color. A slight ropey taste in the finish.
