Glen Scotia Crosshill

Nose: Sweetness, berries, and dried fruit mingle with milk chocolate and faint hints of smoke. Palate: A sweet profile featuring green apple, ginger, and orange peel, accompanied by spices like black pepper, chilies, and clove. Dry oak notes are present. Finish: The lengthy finish maintains sweetness. Spices from the palate intensify, the fruit recedes slightly, and a sour note emerges on the dry conclusion. I typically forgo adding water to my whisky, but this benefits from a couple of drops. It doesn't fundamentally alter the tasting notes, but it does soften some rough edges. The 56.5% ABV is noticeable, so a bit of water also tempers the mild burn on the palate. As a significant admirer of Glen Scotia, I believe they craft excellent, reasonably priced whiskies that often get overlooked by their Campbeltown neighbors, Springbank. This particular expression presents a somewhat unconventional character compared to their usual offerings. I acquired this at Glasgow Airport on my way to Heraklion, Crete. At £67.50 for a liter, it represents a considerable value. While I don't factor price into my whisky evaluations, it's worth noting that this is a purchase that truly justifies its cost.
