George Dickel 9 Year Single Barrel

Tasted neat in a Glencairn glass at 100 proof. This is a special barrel chosen by a couple of bourbon enthusiasts and a Nashville liquor store, triumphantly called "The Ghost of Cascade Hollow." It was barreled on Halloween 2011 and bottled on April 22, 2021. Smells wonderfully of caramel apple and a touch of peanuts! It's like that candied apple from your Halloween candy haul that your parents wouldn't let you eat. But now, as an adult, you can just go for it. The color is dark amber, and the legs cling stubbornly to the glass. Taste-wise, there's a slight hint of the typical Dickel character, but it's quickly overcome by apple, caramel, butterscotch, and candy corn without the waxy feel. The flavors arrive in stages. Who knew candy corn could be so good? I hated it in my candy bag, but I love it in my whiskey! It's so easy to drink, it should be illegal. It reminds me of some early Dickel Bottled in Bond releases, but much richer. Well done. Finish- It lingers for ages! Vanilla appears near the end, transitioning into more butterscotch. Combined with the vanilla, it's almost like butter brickle ice cream. There's a subtle bitterness at the very end, which might be the flaw I'm detecting. Overall- Dickel divides people. You either love it or hate it. Some are put off by the hint of vitamins (though it's very faint here), while others embrace it like Wild Turkey's barrel funk. I'm firmly in the love-it camp. This is excellent Dickel from a well-chosen barrel. A Halloween treat bag of enjoyment! It won't appeal to everyone, but if you appreciate a wonderfully aged, 9-year single barrel pick at a reasonable price... this is definitely more treat than trick.

This is a special selection, aged for over 14 years. The nose presented browned butter, caramel apple, charred oak, and roasted nuts. After the initial taste, returning to the aroma revealed vanilla cake batter, dandelion, and honey. The palate offered Werthers butterscotch, vanilla, apple, oak, cinnamon sugar, and light char. The long finish mirrored the palate with vanilla, oak, tart apple, cinnamon spice, oak char, and hints of aged leather. This store selection is excellent, boasting a complex aroma and a well-balanced palate with a lengthy, smooth finish. My only minor critique is that I wish it had a slightly higher proof than the 98.3 it was bottled at. This is a fantastic whiskey and a new personal favorite.

George Dickel 9 Year Single Barrel Select 2017 Release A potent, Barrel Proof Bourbon from Tennessee, produced in small batches. Its aromatic profile is rich with notes of grains, wood, nuts, herbs, and spices; its creamy body offers flavors of maple, pecan, vanilla, corn, dark berries, and a hint of cocoa; culminating in a long and complex finish with notes of oak, caramel, honeyed apple, and candied pecans. Sampled June 2017 / bottled 2019 / last tasted July 2022.

A potent, small-batch bourbon from Tennessee. It starts with caramel and vanilla aromas. Its rich and complex character offers maple, pecans, spice, dark berries, a hint of cocoa, and vanilla. The experience concludes with a long, warming finish of caramel, honeyed apple, and candied pecans.

Got this at the distillery shop in April 2023, following a tour and tasting. This barrel was hand-selected, aged nine years, and is Barrel #08K14-2895, barreled on 11/14/2008. It smells of baked apples and brown sugar. The rich taste includes caramel and toffee with a faint oak presence. The finish is smooth.

Appealing color. I had anticipated it would be somewhat smoother. Served neat: caramel apple, clove, and white pepper. Adding a bit of water or a small ice cube reduces the pepper and clove intensity. Caramel remains, but the vanilla disappears.
