The aroma is more reminiscent of scotch than I anticipated, with hints of orange and floral notes, though lacking the distinct honey-floral scent of Irish whiskey. It sits between those styles, yet carries tropical fruit and earthy notes akin to tequila. The palate is rich in mint, alongside prominent orange peel and sweetness. The mint is present but not intrusive. This strongly resembles scotch. A surprising development! Subsequent sips reveal more earthiness, which enhances the expected scotch body. Butterscotch notes are quite unexpected for its age. While not overwhelmingly complex, it's a very enjoyable spirit. A peculiar surprise! The vanilla and floral notes emerge without imparting a bourbon-like flavor. It's sweet but not cloying, with a pleasant richness. It's hard to believe this aged only six months. The mint and tequila characteristics eventually become more pronounced, creating a tequila-scotch fusion. A subtle smoky note truly sells the scotch resemblance. It's not a top-tier scotch, but it's quite tasty. Its strong scotch likeness is odd, given better scotches exist and it's meant to be tequila. The apple notes are pleasant, and there might be a touch of honey. Irish whiskeys should take note.

About this bottle
Felipe Camarena is the creator of G4 (four generations) tequila, produced at El Pandillo Distillery in Jesús María, Jalisco. The distillery uses one of two on-site stone ovens to cook the agaves for 22 hours, followed by crushing with a handmade metal tahona named "Felipestein." Both distillations occur in copper stills. The water used is a combination of collected rainwater and spring water in a 50/50 ratio. This reposado expression spends six months aging in used bourbon barrels and is additive-free.

Sampled neat. Visually, it's clear with a very pale straw hue and leaves long legs. The nose presents fruity agave with pleasant smoke, oak, minerals, and black pepper. Subtle vanilla and caramel notes don't overpower the bright aromas. The taste begins with cooked agave, citrus peel bitterness, black pepper, some minerality, hints of oak, and vanilla. The finish is moderately long and dry, with slight sweetness balanced by ample citrus bitterness. An excellent representation of an agave-forward, lightly aged reposado.
I struggle to articulate flavors, but rest assured, this tequila is consistently on my shelf and offers great value for its cost. Agave is prominent, with many other elements present but none overpowering or unbalanced. This is what I offer to individuals trying tequila neat for the first time. I also believe the reposado is the best value in the series, providing ample flavor with a bit of age, and a nice balance between agave and barrel notes.
The G4 profile truly resonates with me. This is the best in their lineup. The minerality is somewhat subdued by abundant baking spices, particularly clove. The palate is rich with the typical G4 characteristics, but the addition of cinnamon and barrel spice elevates it and enhances the mouthfeel. It's nearly perfect.
The barrel aging imparts a very subtle hint of vanilla. Otherwise, it maintains much of the blanco's original character, including that mild peppery note, though it's now softer and more akin to bell pepper. I prefer it slightly more because the barrel aging smooths out some of the blanco's sharper qualities.
First opening 🍾 Allowed to rest for about 5 minutes as the bottle was chilled. Appearance: Pale ochre with legs that clung to the glass in clumps. Smell: Abundant agave and granulated sugar; vegetal notes; some vanilla. Taste: A few spicy notes; sweetness towards the end; vanilla. Finish: The finish isn't very long; hints of pineapple detected; a great finish!
