Many positive reviews preceded my purchase. Initially, the taste was very sweet, perhaps excessively so. While somewhat disappointing, the final assessment is satisfactory, especially considering the cost. Highland Park 10Y and Connemara are preferable to Finlaggan for me, but my opinion could shift. It's certainly worth a try given the reasonable price.

Exceptional value for a quality Islay! I suspect the source for this single malt is Lagavulin; it fits that flavor profile perfectly, though perhaps on the younger side. It's so affordable that I've even used it in smoky cocktails. I like this better than the less expensive single malt from that other brand.

Crystal Giles 3.5

Initial contact is very pleasant, sweet, like a vanilla butter cookie. The sweetness transitions into a non-alcoholic spiciness and then into charcoal/bonfire smoke that lingers on the tongue. I'd call it a solid budget smoky scotch. Like a younger sibling to Talisker 10.

A decent attempt! Quite smoky, sophisticated, elegant, and well-balanced. Aroma: Sounds of a steam locomotive, boiler room, hot hard coal. Taste: Delicate, smooth, dry on the first sip, but then something sweet emerges. A hint of wood ash.

Twila Hampton 3.5

Aroma: Predominantly peaty and iodine, yet very smooth. Taste: Quite strong peat, smoky, some iodine, a hint of laurel, and a touch of sweetness on the tip of the tongue. Finish: Disappears quickly, leaving a dry sensation.

Jack Nieves 3.5

A suitable introduction to whiskies from the island. It's smooth, sweet, and smoky. More experienced drinkers may find it basic, but it offers good value.
