Aroma: Sugary, pronounced wood scent, a hint of alcohol, thick sweet agave. Flavor: Thin texture, not much complexity. Lacks warmth. Agave, subtle smoke, slight wood, peppery notes. Aftertaste: Brief, slightly warm, packed with pepper, faint smoke, a touch of sweet cream and fruit, then it dissipates. General: Intriguing but not outstanding. The barrel influence is barely perceptible, and the overall profile isn't very deep. Appreciate you taking the time! Rating: 4

About this bottle
Excellia Tequila Añejo is the result of a collaboration between master tequila producer Carlos Camarena and EWG Spirits & Wine founder Jean-Sébastien Robicquet. They aimed to merge Mexican and French spirit production traditions with distinctive aging methods. This añejo is aged for 18 months in former cognac and grand cru sauternes barrels, using agave harvested at 8 to 10 years old.

Excellent spirit with notes of apricot, citrus, pepper, barrel spices, cooked agave, and a touch of chocolate. I didn't perceive a significant difference between the Cognac/Sauternes casks, and I don't believe it measures up to Tapatio/el Tesoro/Ocho.
