Efe Fresh Grape Raki

My second Turkish raki, so while I'm not an expert, I do have a point of comparison, and I've sampled raki from other countries in the Mediterranean. Tasted neat and with an ice cube. Clear and viscous in the glass. The aroma is grape must and anise, but not distinct. In the mouth, alcohol and harsh herbal notes overpower the anise, which doesn't truly shine until the finish. It has a thin, watery mouthfeel with some grape must and wine sweetness. Not much is apparent with an ice cube, so it's not very appealing. The finish is light anise that quickly turns sour. After about half an hour of sipping, it has grown on me, as acquired tastes do. That doesn't mean it's great. Compared to the Yeni Raki I've been drinking, this one is rough around the edges, more like the less refined raki types I've had in Croatia, Greece, and Eastern Europe.

An excellent Raki, with a pleasant sweetness and a fragrant anise essence, providing a refreshing experience served over ice.
