Edradour 2011 10 Year Old (Signatory) (Cask No. 482)

(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Sherry Casks Tasting, March 19, 2022). This was a diverse tasting session featuring sherries, gin, brandy, rum, and whiskies, all centered around the theme of sherry. Smell: Mocha, coffee, chocolate, raisins, dates, malt loaf, orange zest, cinnamon. Taste: Burnt caramel, flambéed orange, vanilla, lightly charred oak, cocoa, chocolate raisins, dark chocolate. Finish: Lasts a medium-long time. Dark chocolate, dried fruit (dates, prunes, figs), liquorice, leather, ginger, allspice. Distilled: December 21, 2011 Bottled: February 3, 2022 Cask No: 482 Signatory acquired Edradour from Pernod Ricard in 2002, making this an unusual pairing of an independent bottler owned by the original distillery owner. However, this expression is completely unlike a standard Edradour, so I do understand it to some extent. It's potent and full-bodied for its 46% ABV. Heavily sherried, it delivers all the characteristics expected from a sherry bomb – chocolate, dried fruit, prunes, and hints of ginger and festive spices. A fantastic small dram. There was no direct comparison of tastes, but a vote was held at the end with the results presented as (Liked % / Favourite % / Price). Sherry / dried fruits detected. I appreciate the mouthfeel. Finish is woody. Well-rounded.
