Dunville's Very Rare 10 Year

46% alcohol, non-chill filtered, I believe color was added. i didn't have high expectations when I bought this, but it was a pleasant surprise! I'll taste it again in a few weeks as I'm a bit unwell. Nose: Immediately hit with pine and a lot of ethanol. This was a little concerning because while I don't dislike pine, I'm not a big fan. Neat: Not as pine-heavy as I feared! I immediately taste the strong sherry influence that I enjoy. Followed by a mix of fruits I can't quite identify. Orange zest? Pineapple? Raisins? This congestion is frustrating! Overall, this is a solid Irish whiskey at a reasonable price ($45 USD here in Coachella). I'm eager to try it again!

Nose: Initially strong alcohol, then sweet ripe berries emerge. Faint toasted oak and vanilla appear with more air. Palate: Starts sweet with mild spice, transitioning to milk chocolate and strawberry liqueur. A brief alcohol burn gives way to rich, complex dessert sweetness, mainly from the PX cask. Finish: Lingering sweetness on the tongue, a light texture, concluding delicately.

The nose is very fruity with sherry influence, plus some vanilla and spice, giving it a lighter, fresher profile than expected for a sherry-finished whiskey. The palate is unexpectedly sweet, with almost tropical fruit flavors, strongly reminiscent of sugary kids' drinks. The finish is dry with mainly vanilla notes. It's not overly complex, but it's well-made and pleasant.

This is a distinctive Irish whiskey compared to my other two. It's very aromatic with a lovely floral note. In my opinion, it's more akin to a Scotch as it has a stronger taste, is fully flavored, and possesses significantly more character. It's stated to be aged 10 years, which is a positive attribute. The flavor needs another tasting. Currently, there are many sweet notes and a bit of spice. It's definitely a good one.

I really enjoy my pot stills. Redbreast range, Yellow Spot, and Powers 12. This, however, doesn't measure up to those. Quite alcohol-forward. The PX finishing is rather light. It's not a bad drink but unremarkable...similar to the Powers but lacking the body and viscosity. One of my least favorite pot stills so far. A solid 3.

Purchased in Wolfsburg, Germany The initial impression is the powerful sherry influence, specifically from a Pedro Ximénez (PX) cask. This spirit has clearly matured in these casks for an extended duration, not merely a finishing period. Gentle, sugary aromas greet the senses and carry through to a remarkably smooth and approachable conclusion.
