Dry Fly Triticale Straight Whiskey Port Barrel Finish

This is a single barrel, selected by Total Wine and More, bottled at 50% ABV and aged for 5 years. It was acquired in Spokane, WA, in February 2020. It's made with triticale, a hybrid grain of wheat and rye originating in Scotland, grown on the same historic family farm in Washington where Dry Fly gets its wheat. It was aged in new American oak and then finished in a used Townshend Cellars Port barrel, for a total of five years maturation. This is a non-chill-filtered straight whiskey. The nose presents cereal and floral fruit notes. There's toasted grain and oak, brown sugar, spice, and pepper. The finish has sweet port flavors. It's warm and rounded with a full mouthfeel, exhibiting the softness of wheat alongside the spicy, grassy character of rye. The color is a beautiful deep rose. A truly enjoyable whiskey, served neat or with ice.

I really liked this. Citrus, vanilla, oak, and a rapid warmth. Best served over a large ice cube. It's comparable to Eagle Rare on the rocks. It costs more than Eagle Rare, but it's still good.

Excellent on the rocks. No off-notes, just a well-rounded, enjoyable drink. The burn is gradual and warming. The nose has citrus notes with a pleasant flavor.
