Hector Montgomery 3.5

Consumed neat. The color is brassy. The aroma consists of agave, caramel, vanilla, and oak. The flavor profile includes agave/heavy caramel and butterscotch, flan, vanilla, oak, black pepper, and some baking spices, primarily cinnamon. The finish is of moderate length, dominated by caramel and cinnamon. Generally, this is a typical añejo for its price point. It's easy to drink, sweet, with dessert-like flavors, but significant additives give it a slightly artificial taste. I would personally invest a bit more for Altos Añejo, which lacks additives but is less 'smooth' and doesn't offer the sweet flan notes of this one. Consider this an affordable crowd-pleaser available in large bottles; I see no compelling reason to spend more on Total Wine house brands in this añejo category.

Tucker Kay 4.0

A bright Agave Spirit from Nom1438. It opens with an aromatic bouquet of agave, nuts, spices, and earth. The full and complex body introduces cooked agave, coconut, hazelnut, pepper, and nutmeg. It concludes with a rich, slightly creamy finish featuring notes of cake batter, oak, vanilla, butterscotch, and caramel.
