About this bottle

The Old Reliable represents Dobson’s entry into the Irish whiskey market, undergoing triple distillation for enhanced character. It is aged in small-batch French ex-shiraz casks, with grains sourced from Inverness comprising Golden Promise and Bairds peated malt-barley. Dobson’s continues its tradition of whimsical narratives for its whisky; the Old Reliable is released "when the gods of oak determine that the required balance of smoothness and flavour has been achieved". This bottling is not presently offered in the US.

Sandy Marlow 5.0

This was the inaugural Australian spirit that made me take notice and exclaim, "Wow... that's remarkable." The triple distillation contributes to its smoothness, making it exceptionally mellow. Beneath that smooth exterior lies complexity and a lingering presence. When conducting tastings, I present this pour as evoking plum pudding, stewed fruits, and Christmas cake—evident on the nose, palate, and finish. Vanilla and caramelized orange are also present, and the finish is both robust and enduring. There's a delicate, subtle peat smoke, along with rich color and berry notes from the sherry cask finishing. I've committed to always keeping a bottle of this on hand.
