Detroit City Two-Faced Bourbon

I wanted to enjoy this--"say nice things about Detroit" and all--and I commend these producers for (mostly) starting from scratch and crafting their own spirits through difficult means (unlike many who source). And I truly wish them success.... BUT this is not good. It is worse than not good. Their own spirit completely overwhelms the straight bourbon component. It's corny, raw, dank, leathery, and has unbalanced oak (the flavor shifts between a corny alcohol bite and soggy charred wood). It's drinkable in a cocktail (and the distillery's bar is a pleasant, though somewhat expensive, spot for a drink in Detroit) but not worth your time in its current state.

This is a very young bourbon, so it's quite rough and not pleasant to drink neat or on the rocks. I tried it in a cocktail where bourbon wasn't the primary spirit, and it was acceptable. I had it in an old-fashioned, which was not enjoyable.

The initial taste is good, but the conclusion is somewhat harsh. Detroit City rye is superior.

I confess, the attractive label was the reason for my purchase. It seems very young and like a trendy attempt.
