Dancing Goat 6 Year Limousin Rye

I sampled this one while recuperating from a calf injury last weekend. My fiancée procured a few drams for me to enjoy during my downtime. While I wish we could share the background details here, I'll proceed directly to the tasting notes: Nose: Predominantly strong alcohol, with little else discernible. It's always a bit disappointing when this occurs, as I eagerly anticipate identifying distinct aromas, but alas, this one offered only an alcoholic burn on the nose. Flavor: A very creamy texture on the palate, featuring notes of apple, vanilla, and smoke. Notably smoky. A subtle cinnamon and clove aftertaste lingers briefly. It's a decent spirit, but not one I would actively seek to purchase, though I might keep it on hand if the price was reasonable. I did appreciate the full, creamy mouthfeel and the presence of distinct flavors, which contrasted with the significantly lacking nose. My ratings are based solely on my impressions, independent of cost.

Part of a virtual tasting from Dancing Goat Distillery; I received a 2 oz complimentary sample. Nose: Honey, green apples, black pepper, citrus cleaner, clove, allspice, mint leaves, a little eucalyptus, light oak, and light ethanol. Palate: Spicy black pepper, sharp grain, light honey, green apple, clove, and mint. The finish is brief, with dry rye grain, oak extract, clove, and a very light golden apple. It's not bad, but the palate disappears quickly after an initial burst of pepper. I would not buy a bottle myself because it is too light for its price point.

This review is for the 6-year old. Smells of vanilla and green apple. It has spice on the palate, then some rye, with a wonderful, smooth mouthfeel. The finish has light oak and a lasting warmth. The rye isn't as bold as one might expect, but it's not a negative.

The aroma is gentle, hinting at vanilla, rye, brown sugar, molasses, and dark fruit. These notes transition to the palate, though with diminished vanilla and more pronounced rye and dark fruit characteristics. The finish is brief to moderate, with a lingering rye spice.

The rye flavor is prominent throughout, offering a pleasant spice and a good warmth. It perfectly achieves its intended character. If you're seeking a very rye-forward whiskey that warms you up, this is it. I estimate its value to be $45 or less.
