Dalwhinnie 30 Year (2020 Special Release)

An interesting aroma of peaches and jasmine. Rich flavors of shortbread, ginger, lemon, and a hint of peach on the palate. The finish has a lot of oak spice. It's very nice, but perhaps a little dull? I feel the entire special releases range might be missing a certain mouthfeel. It lacks the delightful, rich oils found in the most enjoyable bottles I currently have open from other distilleries. It might be an unfair comparison, but for me, it highlights the difference between special and spectacular.

The aroma is subtle and sweet. The taste develops, and the finish is smoky and peaty. A truly lovely finish, peaty but distinct from Ardbeg. Second taste: subtle toffee/green apple/chocolate aroma, a spiced palate that's hard to identify, a sweet, smooth finish that lingers pleasantly. The finish has many enjoyable elements, including citrus fruit and cinnamon. I think the finish is the highlight of this spirit, where it can truly shine.

Nose: 4.25/5 rubber, dried leaves, floral, jasmine Palate: 3.75/5 umami, dark chocolate Finish: 4/5 sweet Adding water reveals many more floral notes and chalk.

Costly but very good. It has a peppery and fruity aroma, a sweet scent, a mild taste, and a peppery finish. Is it worth the price? In my view, not quite.

Extremely smooth taste and finish.
