Gayle Roach 3.8

Nose: Fruit from the orchard, plums, berry compote, and floral/lavender notes. Palate: Notes of plums, dates, orchard fruit, rum-soaked raisins, cinnamon, leather, and smoke. The palate has more smoke than the earlier Creation series (1-3). Finish: A long finish with leather, cigar smoke, currants, and raisins. The sweetness of cognac/brandy and port is prominent on the finish, with a pleasant spicy aftertaste. This dram is floral and fruity, possessing a delightful spicy warmth that complements the fruit. It's a very luxurious tasting whisky, with the cognac's influence clearly evident. Excellent! It placed second out of the five drams sampled (excluding the new make spirit), receiving 38% of the votes for favorite of the night. Every person present indicated they enjoyed the whisky. Creation 2 was my personal favorite of the tasting, though it was a very close call between Creations 2 and 4. I have unintentionally assigned the same score to all Creation series expressions (1-4). Any distinction between them is purely a matter of personal preference or current mood – they are all very good, well-priced whiskies.
