The aroma is more like a bourbon than a rye, with the sweetness upfront and well before the rye spices. Vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar with apples and black pepper are the main scents. The sugars coat the palate with minimal throat burn. The low 80 proof prevents this whiskey from having a significant finish, as the flavors fade quickly. This expression exhibits complexity far beyond the typical mildness of most Canadian whiskies. I acquired my bottle in Canada and will purchase another when I next travel to the great white north!
