Coppersea Excelsior Straight Rye

This was the second blind tasting from Flaviar on 12/8/21. Numerous bubbles remained after pouring, suggesting a higher alcohol content. It smells of buttered popcorn. The taste is potent and unusual, with a slightly tinny or metallic quality. It has herbal notes but leans more toward leather. This was my least preferred, from Coppersea. The flavor I couldn't identify was marmalade. It also had notes of cherry and pecan with an excessive amount of barley.

Aroma: earthy and wheat notes with a hint of grape. Taste: slightly acidic smoke notes with wood and char, and a light metallic and oily sensation. Finish: acidic and bitter, a fitting end to the flavor profile. This evokes images of a woodworking shop - the scent of the wood and the oiled machinery.

The aroma is deep, dark, and spicy, with a rich sweetness alongside the rye. There's a hint of caramel toffee sweetness, followed by a powerful rush of spice. The rye is dominant, though there might be some citrus present. The richness provides balance.

I enjoy receiving my Flaviar deliveries, but I admit I have trouble discerning many of their flavor notes. This one is satisfactory. It's not overly spicy and is reasonably smooth.

A very pleasing dark gold. Strong, sweet honey aroma. Honey taste with a tartness. Actually, it's marmalade. Interesting and distinct enough to have.

Strong marmalade flavor with a sharp initial taste. I didn't care for it and am glad I tried it from a sampler, but I won't buy a bottle.
