Macey Dong 4.0

The aroma is good, with buttery, carmelly notes but a heavy barrel influence. Perhaps it's just the name, but I detect a whiff of a wooden bat, leather, and baseball. It's stated to be sherry cask finished, and I do perceive that fruity note as well. The initial taste is undeniably young and bold, with many burnt (but enjoyable) characteristics like burnt apple and burnt caramel. It has a pleasing spicy sensation. I appreciate the barrel proof and high alcohol content. It's complex. While there are certainly more refined whiskeys available, this is a truly excellent one to explore, especially for the $15 bargain I found!

Each sip reveals something new. The depth and complexity are astonishing. It's buttery and smooth on the palate with a long, easy finish. Dark and oily. The proof is deceptively high; I guessed around 90s, but the bartender revealed it's 103 proof! Flavors of butterscotch and wood, it tastes mature with some unexpected green notes appearing after the third or fourth sip.

Wow, this is excellent. Before even tasting it, the aroma reminds me strongly of new vinyl. I really enjoy that.
