An improvement over the regular rye. The aroma is similar initially – earthy/grassy (hay?) with more fruit and spice underneath. Like the standard version, the spice is prominent enough here to indicate it's a rye whiskey. The mouthfeel is reasonably thick. It tastes like a younger rye – minty, some spice, but complemented by a good amount of fruit. It definitely benefits from the extra 12 proof compared to the blended rye, which lacks character. That said, this isn't an aggressive rye; it's an easy drinker, and the finish is much the same.
