If I hadn't known this was a rye, I likely wouldn't have identified it as such. The initial aroma is a wave of grassiness, followed by fruity notes that contradict its rye mash bill, and just a whisper of mint. Unfortunately, the palate is rather dull compared to their bourbon. At 80 proof, there isn't much complexity to discern. On the finish, fruit notes emerge first, then a burst of minty spice – this is where it truly presents as a rye – before quickly fading with a somewhat dry sensation.

About this bottle
Brothers Ryan and Garrett Burchett manage the Mississippi River Distilling Co. Their Cody Road Rye Whiskey, named in honor of Buffalo Bill Cody's fondness for rye, is crafted from 100% rye. Using grain exclusively sourced from Dave and Jim Wherry in Fulton, IL, this whiskey presents a fruitier and more floral profile than many competitors, including Templeton.

This rye is fruitier than one might anticipate, but it starts with spice and concludes with a floral finish. It evokes Japanese whiskies with a higher wheat content from Nashville. It certainly makes a fine Old Fashioned.
Pale in color with a light flavor. Floral and grain on the nose. Thin, sweet grain, then slightly antiseptic initially. Some rye spice appears on the finish. The finish is short. It could benefit significantly from additional aging in oak.
Batch 1702. Bottle 19. I still like this one and finished the bottle making whiskey meatballs from the distillers own cookbook. Tasty!
To me, this is a very pleasant rye. It's very clean and gentle, but the typical rye spice attack appears at the very end of the finish. Good stuff!
Another bottle finished while making homemade rye BBQ for little smokies and beef short ribs for the Super Bowl. Batch 6 and bottle 58.
