Coalition Rye Barrel Proof utilizes a mash bill composed entirely of rye, including both malted and unmalted varieties. Sourced from Waldeck Farms, located a mile from Kentucky Artisan Distillery, the rye is distilled using copper pot stills. This straight rye whiskey undergoes a five-year aging process in oak barrels before being bottled at 108.8 proof.

I should mention upfront that I had some involvement with this project, so I have a personal stake. Taste- Despite the higher proof, it has a substantial mouthfeel, with initial tastes of black pepper, sweet pear, dried fruits, and a touch of citrus. Nose- Sweet, with vanilla, dried fruits, and a subtle aroma. Finish - Smooth notes of sweet vanilla and oak that persist for a suitable duration.
