Nose: Abundant sherry, sultanas, raisins, rich fruit cake, cinnamon, and clove. Palate: A semi-sweet entry with significant stewed fruit (figs, dates, plums), nuts, and a touch of cocoa. Limited development occurred, and dilution had little impact. While the flavor profile is focused due to its age, the presented notes are good. Finish: Medium to short. Lighter fruit notes (apple, grape) emerge as the darker fruit cake flavors fade. Some grassy notes and a hint of milk chocolate are present in the aftertaste. Distillery Background: Founded in 2016, with production starting the following year, this distillery is owned by a company associated with an independent bottler, though they are separate entities. The distillery resides in a renovated historic building by the river. Their initial release was in 2021, and they now offer several core range expressions. The distillery features an interesting visitor center detailing Glasgow's history and industry on the Clyde, along with various tours. Informational Context: A tasting, including this sample, is part of the basic tour. This specific expression is not commercially available but serves to demonstrate the spirit's character after maturation for approximately 3 years in ex-sherry casks. It closely resembles a typical un-peated, sherried whisky profile. Comparison: I slightly preferred this to the Bourbon Cask expression tasted earlier, but the difference was marginal. It's important to note that neither of these is a sellable product; they are specifically crafted to showcase the new-make spirit's interaction with different cask types, a purpose they fulfill effectively.
