Chairman's reserve legacy rum

The Bottle: Its stout shape makes it easy to spot if you know what to look for. Honestly, it's not my preferred design. The white and "parchment" colors clash, and the variety of fonts and graphics feels chaotic. Normally, I wouldn't pay attention to such details, but they stand out with this one. The back label mentions the rum, but lacks the detail found on a Plantation expression. In the Glass: It has a bronze color and shows good viscosity. On the Nose: This is where the bottle's design starts to fade from memory. Despite being 43% ABV, there's no harshness; it offers an appealing combination of brown sugar and leather, with a subtle savory note at the end. I suspect this comes from being a blend of sugarcane and molasses distillate, but there's definitely something beyond simple sweetness that I can't quite pinpoint. Whatever it is, it's good. Taste: It starts with a sweet impact that quickly dries out. The complexity emerges in the development and finish, revealing distinct bitter notes. It's not a coffee-like bitterness, but more of an "astringent" quality. It's not unpleasant, just different. Consequently, this doesn't quite work for me as a neat drink. That peculiar bitterness lingers on the palate after a few sips, and the sweetness from subsequent tastes isn't strong enough to mask it. I believe this would be better suited for a cocktail requiring a robust darker rum (it needs supporting elements to create a harmonious blend). Having said all this, I'm still interested in trying one of their "Forgotten Cask" offerings to see the distillery's higher-end output.

A blend of molasses and agricole rums. Superb and very complex. Strangely less body in the mouth than the "Original" bottling but even more aromatic and appealing. Very nice length and aromas of white and yellow fruits combined with sweet notes of caramel and vanilla. The wood adds a slight spicy touch, typical of cloves. Aged in American white oak casks.

Beautiful notes of butterscotch raisins on the nose, smells like Christmas. Taste of vanilla and dried fruits, but lacks sweetness.

Smooth and oaky with vanilla in the aroma. The flavor is initially sweet, then becomes unpleasantly bitter. There's a slight burn, but not significant.
