The new Cardrona distillery in the Cardrona Valley in southern NZ opened in October 2015 and laid down its first cask in November 2015, meaning their first whisky should be available soon. I inquired about the progress with one of the owners, and they mentioned they could release it now as it's already good, but they'll likely wait for the standard three-year aging period. Anyway, regarding the vodka: it's very nice, with an unusual creaminess. With only water, barley, and yeast as ingredients, it's unclear if one or all contribute to this characteristic.
