I've previously reviewed some whiskies from the fascinating narrative of the Ghost Piper of Clanyard Bay, produced by the independent bottler "Fable," but I hadn't encountered this specific Caol Ila bottling before. An 8-year-old Caol Ila, bottled at 59.8% ABV, might intimidate some, but then again, this is a spooky tale. The Ghost Piper is said to still inhabit the cave where he became eternally lost. Let's see if this whisky can be remembered for generations to come. On the nose, it smells wonderful. Vanilla custard, fondant, smoke, pepper, ashes, and chili. The palate is quite intense due to the peatiness and high alcohol content. It has sugar notes and chili. The aftertaste is a raw peat bomb mixed with red chili. It feels powerful, young, but not bad at all. Overall, it's a very straightforward whisky that is potent yet quite enjoyable. The bottle didn't last long, which is always a positive indicator. For an 8-year-old dram, this can be considered 'good,' ranking above average. My score for it is 85 out of 100.
