Aged 11 years, this single malt scotch presents an old oak hue. The legs develop slowly after swirling. The nose offers peat and ash, with sweetness and savoriness. Notes of smoky barbecue, glazed bacon, chocolate-covered cherries, apricots, and vanilla are present. The palate begins with intense, sweet smoke. Deeper exploration reveals dark berries, sooty ash, citrus peel, black pepper, and a touch of honey. The medium-long finish is remarkably layered, with flavors evolving on the palate. A consistent smoky and ashy undertone persists throughout. It starts sweet with plums and honey, moves to savory glazed bacon, then a bitter dark chocolate and coffee grounds note, concluding with a slightly salty, maritime feel alongside wet ash and tar. Truly magnificent! Adding a few drops of water subtly enhances the citrus on the palate, perhaps a hint of lemon. This dynamic and superb spirit, especially with a sherry finish, is a superb example. A delightful experience that will be missed on my shelf. Recommended and would purchase.
