Journeyman Distillery Silver Cross Four Grain Whiskey

I experienced the cask strength at the source and was extremely pleased. (4.5/5) They only stocked the 45% in bottles, so I acquired a 375ml bottle. I'm finding this one challenging. The aroma is butterscotch, vegetation, and adhesive. The flavor has some of the butterscotch, but I'm detecting strong mint. Similar to Fernet mint. This is my second evaluation, and the prior one was solely mint, so I will revisit it in a few weeks.

I've gone through several bottles of this already, but since it was part of our distillery tasting, I didn't pass it up! It's hard to pinpoint a specific aroma on the nose. I perceive a sweetness, but the alcohol is definitely present. There's considerable heat if you sip this neat; try it with some water for a different experience. Regardless of how you choose to drink it, it's a very enjoyable pour.

I'm uncertain if it's just my bottle, but something seems off. I'm getting a taste akin to synthetic cork in the whiskey. It has a silky texture, vegetal notes, a metallic vanilla, and the lower alcohol content contributes to its "smoothness." Adding ice or water doesn't improve it; it fades quite rapidly. I had high hopes for this based on other opinions I'd seen, but for me, it's not a preferred pour.

Strong medicinal notes; a couple drops of water reveal a sweeter flavor while maintaining warmth. There's a fruity sweetness throughout the tasting experience. I'm surprised by the lack of strong barrel flavor, but pleased with the various tasting notes. The more you sip, the better it becomes.

The nose features intense caramel apple and brown sugar, with oak, a hint of dill/rye spice, and powdered sugar. The taste is like a gingerbread cookie with pepper and dill, a lingering bitter finish, light cherry, dark brown sugar, molasses, a slightly biscuity malty flavor, and a bright, almost minty taste.
