Canadian Club Edition Barley Batch

Nose: Like barley sugar/sweet celery, overripe tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, banana), a touch of candied fruit (maraschino cherry, apples), raisins, rye oakiness, a hint of caramel and vanilla, a touch of floral lavender, red licorice, sweet and hot peppers, rye fruitiness (a medley of apples, cherry, ripe apricot), a hint of molasses and light toffee, orange peel, light cream of wheat, candied lemon peel. Palate: Barley sugar, sweet pimento peppers, blood orange peel, peppermint, a hint of honey, hot pepper, rye greenness, a slight brininess, fruity bubblegum, zesty and spicy mulled wine. Finish: Green grape skins, a hint of barley sugar, slight green paprika bitterness and spice, rye spice, wood bitterness and spice, the faintest hint of tobacco smoke, a hint of smokiness, a hint of floral (lavender).

Nose: An upfront herbal quality (like diluted chamomile tea) mixed with rye/corn, barley sweetness, menthol, and faint wet hay. Palate: Semi-sweet whipped cream, quick rye spices, an undertone of barley, grass, and menthol. Quite bitter. Finish: Faint almond/vanilla/sugar, warm rye spices, prominent leather bitterness at the end (quite harsh). The bitterness mellows out after a few seconds. It lingers for a long time (the best characteristic of the entire experience). Everything else fades very quickly. Decent mouthfeel. Adding water brings out caramel on the tongue, but diminishes the other flavors. I've seen many positive reviews and felt compelled to try it. Unfortunately, the price-to-quality ratio isn't there. What a distinctive Canadian spirit. It presents some dark fruit and honey sweetness, but an astonishing amount of malt or cereal sugar. Frankly, it smells like a grain bin. It immediately transports me to the farm, a sensation no other whisky has ever evoked. I would purchase this solely for that experience. So many bottles are identical or show only minor differences. This is a spirit that divides opinion; I'm in the 'love it' camp. Absolutely fantastic!
