Journeyman Distillery's Kissing Cousins Organic Whiskey is their Featherbone Bourbon, which undergoes a secondary maturation in a 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon barrel from Wyncroft Winery. The name reflects the bourbon's brief contact with the nearby winery's barrel. The mash bill is primarily corn, supplemented with Michigan wheat, rye, and barley malt. The base bourbon is aged for 15 months in new white oak.

$35 for a 375ml bottle in Michigan. Aroma (Neat): Medium alcohol, cabernet, light mandarin orange and corn. Palate (Neat): Medium burn as it goes down. Plum, light orange, a touch of sugar and light spice. Finishes fairly dry. I prefer this one served on ice to mellow the burn.
Similar to distant relatives, I try to avoid this whisky when possible. Initial flavors of wood and nuts are followed by a hint of caramel, and the finish is almost painfully dry. Again, much like... I'll stop there.
