Cameron Brig Whisky

Nose: At first it seems restrained, but it expands as it sits in the glass. Hints of vanilla appear, but the primary scents were wood shavings and various sweeteners. In the distance, a familiar smoky smell, like burnt wood, that I find in most single grain spirits. With concentration, I can faintly detect the "bacon and maple syrup" from the official description, but it's barely there. The sweetness reminds me more of different kinds of sugar. Some oily notes surface later. Palate: A soft, smooth entry that smoothly transitions into a pleasingly sweet progression. Notes of white grape skin, sugar candy, wood (though not astringent), and dark sugar are present. The consistency resembles weak syrup with a subtle fruitiness. Finish: A medium-length finish that gently subsides with lingering dark sugar notes. The empty glass primarily holds the smoky, charcoal scent from the spirit itself. The more fragrant elements originated from the barrels and have dissipated. I was taken aback by how compelling this whisky was and how much I liked it. Considering its cost, it offers fair worth and a decent substitute for a budget blended malt or scotch, but it falls short against even a standard single malt. Its main rival is clearly Hedonism. For a slightly higher price, Hedonism provides a more prominent nose, a fuller palate, superior wood influence... essentially, more of everything. However, to its credit, this spirit possesses a subtle, unpretentious appeal and works well in cocktails. Sampled from a bought portion. I would gladly purchase a bottle in the future but am not eager to do so immediately. "Average": 78/100 (2.75 stars)

There's not a lot going on here, meaning you won't come to dislike it, but you likely won't adore it either. The aroma is best described as: slightly salted maple taffy. It's pleasant, but unremarkable.

Not my preferred choice. It didn't impress me much.
