The producer's origins trace back to 1912 in José de Melo, now Nova União, Minas Gerais. The founder, Sérgio Caetano, initially made it in a small farm still for personal use, following his parents' practice. The Germana brand was inspired by a nun known for drawing pilgrims seeking remedies made from cachaça and herbs. In 1988, the ten Caetano brothers, now leading the Germana Group, became involved in the Minas Gerais Association of Quality Cachaça Producers (ANPAQ), an initiative that spread nationwide with the goal of elevating cachaça to the same level as other global spirits. To broaden the reach of their work, they opened the first Cachaçaria in Brazil, Alambique Cachaçaria e Armazém, in Belo Horizonte in 1989, which celebrated 25 successful years in 2014. The Germana Group currently employs 200 people across its businesses, all centered around cachaça. This well-regarded brand has earned numerous national and international awards and is found in the collections of discerning consumers in Brazil and abroad. Cachaça is sold in all Brazilian states and exported to eight countries. Handcrafted in copper stills, Germana is available in five varieties, differing in aging location, duration, and wood type. Caetano’s Germana Premium Cachaça 1000ml is aged for one year in amburana barrels, imparting a smooth yet very sweet aroma and flavor, unique to this wood and distinct from oak-aged cachaças. It contains 40% alcohol.
