The founder of Cachaça Carvalheira, having worked with sugar, alcohol, and brandy, was hired by Usina Rio Una and later became a director for the group's factories. He then led TECAL Tecnologia, managing numerous companies in the alcohol, sugar, and brandy industries. After a trip to Cuba, he proposed acquiring an institute focused on sugar cane derivatives. Technicians were hired to develop yeasts, and European oak barrels were acquired for cachaça production. A partnership led to a bar in a shopping mall serving Carvalheira cachaças, where I sampled them all. Unfortunately, they were quite poor, raising doubts about their authenticity. The family name originated from a property in Portugal, belonging to a great-grandfather who relocated to Brazil. This particular cachaça is aged for 5 years in oak and has a 38% alcohol content. Personal notes: The dark amber hue, woody, alcoholic, bitter, and unbalanced character was disappointing.
